Escape to the country: English migration patterns
Despite the recession, the lure of the rural idyll continues to draw people from London and other urban locations into rural markets.
However, with housing market turnover 40% below the 2003-07 average, the net flow of people into rural areas has also fallen by 40%. Meanwhile, the outflow from London is 63% below the peak level seen in 2004 as more people move to/remain in the capital due to its stronger prospects for employment and economic growth.
